Friends Discussing Their Basketball Training Session

We’re in the middle of a mental health crisis, with 1.6 million people currently stuck on waiting lists for NHS mental health services. We know that sport, physical activity, and movement can play a powerful role in helping people with mental health problems, alongside talking therapies, medication and other forms of support.

22 May – 10-11am

In light of this, Mind have worked closely with people who have lived experience of mental health problems, as well as coaches, front-line deliverers, and healthcare professionals from 180+ sports, mental health and physical health organisations to last year launch new guidance on safe and effective practice for those delivering physical activity. With more programmes taking place across the country, this guidance gives sport and physical activity professionals the confidence to safely and effectively support the mental health of their participants, as well as tools and activities to support their own mental wellbeing.

In this session Ben will guide you through the Safe and Effective Practice Toolkit, showcasing simple steps you can take to ensure your sessions are inclusive for people with mental health problems, whilst highlighting the importance of professional boundaries. He will signpost to wellbeing activities, tools, templates, and resources that you can easily incorporate into your practice.
