Trevor Pearce appointed as new CIMSPA Chair

Trevor Pearce

CIMSPA is pleased to announce the appointment of Trevor Pearce CBE QPM as our new Chair of the Board of Trustees.

He replaces Marc Woods, who stepped down in December after completing the maximum term of nine years in the post.

Trevor brings with him a wealth of experience from a 40-year career in law enforcement and non-executive roles in both the regulatory and charity sectors, including positions as commissioner of the Gambling Commission, and nine years as chair of UK Anti-Doping.

Speaking about his new post, Trevor said:

“I’m delighted to be appointed as chair of CIMSPA following on from the strong foundation provided by Marc. I was obviously aware of CIMSPA before applying for the role, but as I learn more about the organisation and meet with our committed board, leadership team and staff, I realised the step changes that have been made around the workforce, such as professional recognition, professional standards, workforce governance, and the many great opportunities ahead to collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders.”

Going on to discuss how he plans to utilise his skills and knowledge developed from his vast experience both in and out of the sector, Trevor went on to add:

“My time spent at UK Anti-Doping has given me a great insight into sport, sports governance, and integrity in sport. It has given me the opportunity to work with national governing bodies and sports councils across the UK and to recognise the importance of sport and physical activity in our lives.

“I see the role of a board member as being central to the development of the body’s strategy and checking that its delivery is on course, ensuring all the governance responsibilities are met, and being an advocate and representative of the organisation.”

Trevor’s other current roles include being a lay adviser to the Kent Multi-Agency Public Protection Panel, a non-executive director of a security group, and chair of an East Midlands charity that supports children with trauma counseling. He has also previously been a trustee for charities providing support to adults with learning disabilities and tacking modern slavery and trafficking.

Speaking about Trevor’s appointment, CIMSPA CEO Tara Dillon, said:

“Trevor has many strings to his bow and adds so much value to CIMSPA.

“He cares deeply about people having opportunities regardless of their previous experiences and background. So, equality, diversity and inclusion are very high on his agenda, and he absolutely sees the benefits of movement and being active for people’s physical and mental wellbeing, particularly with young people in terms of their physical literacy and enabling them to be more resilient.

“He’s also worked across policy at the highest level, having tackled some of the most complex political and regulatory challenges. He has vast experience in local policing and leading national law enforcement agencies, and when the Gambling Commission was set up, he was selected by government to take on a commissioning role.”
